Dallas Video Festival 2008

The windows of the cloths shops attract the interest of the Iranian passersby who stop and pause in front of the displayed clothes. They meet the looks of the grotesque mannequins, disturbing reproductions of the female figure which have become a metaphor of women's veiled and mutilated bodies, redefined according to the regime's law. In the 80s the mannequins disappeared from the shop windows, reappearing after the war between Iran and Iraq. First the male mannequins, then the female ones appeared again, modified by the production companies in order to minimize the feminine characteristics, like a warning sent to the Iranian women and society. An absurd totem intended to perpetuate the established order.
